Moving from Harvest

Leaving Harvest? Bring your history with you.

If your Harvest bill has gone up and you are looking around, the hard part is rarely the new tool. It is the years of clients, projects, hours and invoices you would leave behind. Ancor reads them from Harvest's own exports, shows you a preview before anything is saved, and can undo the import in one click.

The short answer

Can I move my Harvest data into Ancor?

Yes. Export your reports from Harvest as CSV, add them in Ancor under Import, check the preview and confirm. Clients, projects, tasks, time entries, people and invoices come across. Expenses, estimates, invoice line items, hours-based budgets, project codes and retainers stay in Harvest. Ancor is agency management software for teams of 10 to 100 people: projects, timesheets, team capacity, client approvals, live project margin and invoicing, at one flat price per team rather than per seat.

What moves across

What the import brings in.

What stays in Harvest

Expenses, estimates, invoice line items, hours-based budgets, project codes and retainers are not imported. Keep your Harvest export files as the record for those.

What you can check before and after

How long it takes

Minutes for a typical export.

Most of the time goes on downloading the reports from Harvest. The import itself takes minutes for a typical export, and the preview tells you what will be created before you confirm.

Step by step

Export from Harvest, then import into Ancor.

Harvest's menus change from time to time. Where we are not sure of the exact path we describe the page, and Harvest's own help articles are linked below.

  1. Detailed time report. In Harvest, go to Reports, then Detailed time. Choose the date range you want to keep (for a full history, start from your first entry), then use Export and pick CSV. This report carries your hours, and the clients, projects, tasks and people behind them.
  2. Invoices report. Go to Invoices, open the Report view for the same date range, and export it as CSV.
  3. Projects. From the Projects page, use Export. This adds each project's billing model, hourly rate, budget and dates.
  4. Clients and Contacts. From the Clients page, export your clients, and export your contacts. Contacts give each new client its first contact email.
  5. Team. From the Team page, use Export. The email addresses let Ancor match people to your teammates.
  6. In Ancor. Go to Import, then Harvest. Add the files, check the preview, and confirm.

Use CSV rather than Excel. Ancor reads Excel exports up to 5,000 rows per file. CSV takes up to 50,000 time entries per import, up to 10 MB per file, and you can add up to 7 files at once.

One flat price per team, not per seat.

The price changes only when your team crosses 10, 20 or 30 people. Placeholder people from an import do not count.

Common questions

Before you import.

Will my Harvest history come across?

Most of it. Ancor imports clients, projects, tasks, time entries, people and invoices from Harvest's own CSV or Excel exports. Expenses, estimates, invoice line items, hours-based budgets, project codes and retainers stay in Harvest, so keep your export files.

Will my team get emails during the import?

No. Nothing is emailed during an import. People who are not matched to an Ancor teammate come in as placeholder people, and placeholder people are never emailed.

Do imported people use seats?

People matched by email or name to your Ancor teammates are those teammates. Anyone not matched comes in as a placeholder person: their hours count on the project, but they are not a login and take no seat.

Can I undo the import?

Yes. Every import shows a preview before anything is saved, and can be undone in one click afterwards. Undo removes only what that import created. Running the same files again does not create duplicates.

What happens to my Harvest invoices?

Open and paid invoices come in as read-only history with their number, client, issue and due dates, amount, amount paid, currency and state. Closed invoices come in as cancelled and drafts are skipped. Imported invoices are never sent to anyone and never change your Ancor invoice numbering. Time that Harvest already invoiced is not shown as waiting to be billed in Ancor.

Does Ancor charge per seat?

No. Ancor is one flat price per team. A month, up to 10 people is USD 99, GBP 79 or AUD 149; up to 20 is USD 149, GBP 119 or AUD 229; up to 30 is USD 199, GBP 159 or AUD 299, plus local tax. In India the same plans are ₹9,999 + GST, ₹14,999 + GST and ₹19,999 + GST a month.

How long does the import take?

Minutes for a typical export. You export the reports from Harvest, add the files in Ancor under Import, check the preview and confirm.

Should I export CSV or Excel from Harvest?

CSV. Ancor reads Excel exports up to 5,000 rows per file. CSV takes up to 50,000 time entries per import, up to 10 MB per file, and up to 7 files at once.
